Gary Gordon is currently studying as a percussionist at Columbus State University in the studio of Dr. Paul Vaillancourt. While furthering his education as a professional musician, Gary has earned a reputation as a reliable and knowledgable audio engineer in the Schwob community – eventually leading to his work as the technical director of Schwob’s Classical Columbus. He also works as a freelance musician and A/V technician, engineering recording sessions and running sound at The Loft in downtown Columbus.
Micah Taylor enrolled for a M.M. in cello performance with Columbus State University in the fall of 2022, under the tutelage of award winning cellist Wendy Warner. As a cellist, he has performed throughout the United States, advised on international music festivals, and is currently working on releasing his first album. During his undergraduate degree at Pensacola Christian College he pursued a B.A. in music performance, while also honing his love for audio and video technologies with a digital media minor. This has allowed him to jump right into the exciting project that is Classical Columbus as the program director under Dr. Matthew McCabe.
Nick Williams–Smith is a Schwob School of Music alumnus, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree with an Audio Technology Certificate from CSU in 2020. He has worked with Schwobtech in the Schwob Recording Studio since he began his studies at CSU in 2015, participating in a broad spectrum of projects ranging from the birth of the Schwob live streaming program to the production of the album “History of Tango” by the W.E. Duo. He also works in A/V positions around Columbus, including running sound at The Loft downtown as well as providing live streams of services at the local St. Thomas Episcopal church.
Julian Chalon has been playing guitar for over 25 years and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of North Texas. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in guitar performance at Columbus State University where he also serves as an adjunct professor of guitar. As a classical guitarist he has performed in the Southwest U.S., Italy, Croatia, and Spain, and received first place in the Mountain View Guitar Festival and Competition. In his downtime, he enjoys writing music for both classical and electric guitar.
Dr. Matthew McCabe joined the CSU music faculty in the Fall of 2009 as Visiting Assistant Professor of Audio Technology. He holds degrees in music from the University of Richmond, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Florida. Trained as a composer, he has focused on electroacoustic music and the creative use of music technology throughout his career. He worked as the music technology specialist at the University of Richmond for two years after finishing his degree there, and has served as the technical director for both the Florida and Third Practice Electroacoustic Music Festivals as well as working as a recording engineer and producer. He serves on the board of the Society of Composers as a system administrator and regularly consults with Columbus-area live music venues and churches about amplification techniques. As the coordinator of the Schwob School of Music’s technology area, Dr. McCabe teaches courses in recording arts, music technology, and electroacoustic and computer music.
